A Study on the Factors Influencing on the Suicidal Ideation of the Disabled Elderly

Abstract
The purpose of this study was to analyze the factors influencing on the suicidal ideation of the disabled elderly. For this the researchers conducted life table analysis and Cox regression analysis by combining the data from 6th to 10th survey of the Korea Welfare Panel Study.
As a result of this research, first of all, the lower the age was, the disabled elderly were more likely to have suicidal ideation. Secondly, the higher the degree of depression was and the lower level of self-esteem they had, the disabled elderly were more likely to have suicidal ideation. Finally, the public assistance non-recipients were more likely to have suicidal ideation than the public assistance recipients. And those who have lower social support were more likely to experience suicidal ideation. These findings give us significant practical implication for prevention strategy of the suicidal ideation.
